In the Human Society and its Environment (HSIE) area of study, students explore varied subjects that cover areas such as history, geography, people, societies and culture. HSIE provides opportunities for the development of critical thinking skills and knowledge and understanding of  physical and social environments, different cultures and their place in it. At St Patrick's College, the HSIE department offers Business Studies, Economics, Legal Studies, Ancient and Modern History, History Extension, Aboriginal Studies, Geography and Society and Culture.
